Excessive Salvia When Wearing Invisalign Aligners

Orthodontic treatment is challenging for patients whether they choose traditional metal braces or Invisalign clear aligners. A lot of patients think that by choosing Invisalign they are more comfortable and removable that there are basically no problems. So let’s take a look at the most common problems associated with using Invisalign.

Normal to have excessive saliva when wearing Invisalign?
It is normal to have excessive saliva and saliva bubbles when wearing Invisalign aligners. When wearing the aligners for the first time it takes time to adjust and the discomfort is all normal. It can take between 2 to 3 days for those who adjust quickly or 1 to 2 months for those who adjust very slowly. It’s also normal when you first start with a new set of aligner trays, they may not fit tightly against your teeth. Sometimes there are saliva bubbles where the tooth has been extracted and the aligner can even fog up.

Other problems that might arise when wearing Invisalign:

l Invisalign must be worn a minimum of 22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating and daily oral hygiene.

l Getting new Invisalign aligner trays can be uncomfortable and even painful when you get fitted for a new set. Although the orthodontist most likely refers to the feeling as pressure, it can be painful as your teeth are adjusting to a new set of aligners.

l Invisalign aligners need to be removed for eating and you are also required to brush your teeth after each meal before putting them back in your mouth, which means you’ll be brushing your teeth multiple times per day, which can be inconvenient.

Clear Aligners Which is Better Invisalign or Angelalign?

How much does Invisalign cost compared to Angelalign? Invisible orthodontics is becoming the most popular choice of orthodontic treatment though the price is always the main consideration for most patients. Currently in Shenzhen the two main clear aligner brands used are Angelalign and Invisalign. So what’s the difference between the brands?

Invisalign
Invisalign was founded in 1997 and is currently the world’s leading clear aligner brand. The aligners are made from SmartTrack® material, for more predictable, controlled tooth movements. Costs for Invisalign are more expensive with costs starting at over 40,000 RMB to 50,000 RMB.

Angelalign
Angelalign is a Shanghai based company that offers invisible orthodontic treatment with Angelalign and Angelalign Pro. The AngelAlign system uses masterControl® technology which was specifically designed for its products. The costs of Angelalign can start at over 30,000 RMB to 40,000 RMB.

There is a substantial price difference between Invisalign and Angelalign which often leaves patients in a dilemma about which brand to choose. However, both brands can still give the results and through a consultation with a professional orthodontist you can discuss which brand is within your price budget.

Is tooth extraction required for Invisalign or Angelalign?
A lot of patients have the misconception that tooth extraction is not required for clear aligners. However, if patients think that by choosing clear aligners they can avoid tooth extraction. This is not the case, with clear aligners there are some cases where tooth extractions are necessary.

Though orthodontists will try and prevent tooth extractions to give the best results but when needed tooth extractions also need to be done. Whether a tooth extraction is required a orthodontist will do a examination and x-rays will be taken and will give you a detailed treatment plan which will explain whether extractions are required.

How Much More Expensive is Lingual Braces Compared to Invisalign

How much more expensive are lingual braces compared to Invisalign? Why are invisible orthodontics more expensive than traditional braces? The biggest difference with lingual braces is they are fitted behind the teeth so in terms of comfort and aesthetics they provide the best results.

How much do lingual braces cost?
The best known brands of lingual braces are the imported brands e.Brace and Incognito. The price of the materials are substantially more expensive and the techniques for lingual braces require orthodontists to be certified to carry out the procedure. Therefore patients can expect prices around 60,000 RMB to 70,000 RMB.

How do prices of lingual braces compare to Invisalign?
Invisalign is currently one of the most popular choice of clear aligners. Prices currently come in at 30,000 RMB to 40,000 RMB. In comparison with lingual braces they are cheaper. Also Invisalign are clear and removable by the patient when they need to eat.

There is no need to be put off by the price of lingual braces, if you can afford lingual braces then it is a good choice. If you are looking for braces that are less costly then you can make an appointment with an orthodontist who can create a treatment plan for you and give you options with choices and detailed costs of the treatment so you know what you’re expected to pay.

The costs of lingual braces do not need to be paid at once but can be made in installments. A deposit is paid first and then each payment after will be made when you have an appointment with the orthodontist. The costs of orthodontic treatment vary for each patient and will depend on the severity and complexity of the case. It is only after an appointment with a orthodontist can accurate costs be given.

Can I Wear Lipstick with Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners in comparison to traditional braces are much more discreet and when it comes to attending parties and events you feel less self conscious as the aligners are nearly invisible. For most ladies the concern is whether wearing lipstick with aligners is allowed, so let’s take a look.

Orthodontists express that wearing lipstick with traditional braces, lingual braces and clear aligners does not cause any problems. However, one thing to be aware of is to be careful not to get lipstick onto the aligner or braces as it will be hard to remove.

There are lots of tips and tricks online for applying lipstick with Invisalign. The finger method currently seems to be the best and easiest to use. Firstly use put your index finger into your mouth, wrapping the lips around your finger and most of the excess lipstick residue from your inner lips should have transferred onto your finger.

There are currently two options for invisible orthodontics, currently the clear aligners which can be removed and lingual braces which are fitted behind the teeth. As for convenience clear aligners can be removed for eating and drinking but need to be worn at least 22 hours a day. So between meals you will need to brush and floss teeth before putting the aligners back in.

Do aligners affect speech?
When starting to wear aligners it will take time to adjust and to begin with it will be uncomfortable and might affect your speech. However, once you adjust it will return to normal.

Clear aligners don’t give good results?
Overall results will depend on individual cases and the treatment plan designed by the orthodontist. The orthodontist will advise the best type of orthodontic treatment for you and in some cases clear aligners are not always suitable for all patients. As for the concern of relapse after braces are removed, patients need to be aware the importance of wearing a retainer to prevent the shifting of teeth. Retainers need to be worn for life.

How Long Does it Take to See Results with Invisalign

Why is it when different people choose to use Invisalign that some patients only need 20 sets of clear aligners whereas some patients need about 70 sets of clear aligners? How many sets of aligners are needed will depend on the severity of the case. More simple orthodontic treatment may only require approximately 20 to 30 sets of aligners. Whereas more severe cases will need between 60 to 70 sets of aligners.

The more aligners the better?
Each set of Invisalign aligners are designed by the orthodontist to create movement of the teeth. How much the teeth shift into the position and how long it takes will depend on the treatment plan designed uniquely for individual patients.

How many sets of aligners are considered normal?
There is not a specific number of aligners that are considered normal, the number of aligners prescribed will depend on the treatment plan designed by the orthodontist. The length of time for treatment will also be linked to the number of aligners used.

After how many sets of aligners will the results be visible?
Each orthodontic case is different so it’s difficult to say when results will be visible. In some cases patients start to see changes after 1 month and others may not see visible changes till 3 months. As for how many sets of aligners will it take to see results this is also hard to say as some cases are more complex than others.

Choosing a professional orthodontist and wearing the clear aligners for at least 22 hours a day and changing the aligners every 2 weeks as instructed is important during treatment.

Orthodontics & Aligners

Are clear aligners used for straightening teeth painful? No orthodontic treatments will be painless and even though anesthetic is used for tooth extraction and other treatments, once braces or aligners are fitted there will be some degree of discomfort.

Clear aligners once worn are effectively invisible and is not noticeable and in terms of aesthetics for patients who are self conscious clear aligners can meet their needs. The aligners can also be removed whenever which makes it very convenient for patients. However, many patients have expressed even though clear aligners have their advantages there is a certain extent of pain and discomfort, so is this true?

1. Before Orthodontic Treatment

For example, patients who have overcrowded teeth and protruding front teeth, prior to orthodontic treatment teeth will have to be extracted. This includes wisdom teeth extraction and with extractions there is some degree of pain.

If extractions are not required then there is the possibility of interproximal reduction, subgingival scaling and root canal treatment which can all be painful. Therefore, the above mentioned are all carried out before orthodontic treatment and the pain is not associated with the fitting of aligners or braces.

2. During Orthodontic Treatment

When wearing the clear aligners there will be discomfort and this is due to the teeth adapting to the pressure. With the pressure this will result in the periodontal tissues to move causing slight pain. Each time you switch to new aligners this will happen. Of course, even if you wear traditional braces there is also pain and discomfort. But in comparison to braces, clear aligners can cause less pain.

3. After Orthodontic Treatment

Once orthodontic treatment is complete, patients will have to wear retainers which also can be uncomfortable.

Overall, how painful the orthodontic treatment is will depend on the severity of the teeth. More importantly the amount of pain and discomfort is also directly linked with the pain threshold of the patient. In most cases patients are able to handle the pain and discomfort.

How Much Do Discreet Braces Cost?

Many people often want braces to achieve the best results for straightening teeth. However, the biggest concern for most people is the stigma attached to wearing braces. Luckily, there are now options of “barely there” braces for those who want a discreet option of straightening teeth.

Traditional braces are notorious for being way too noticeable leading to the unsightly metal mouth look. So to combat the unattractive traditional braces there are now discreet braces which can cater to those who want straight teeth but don’t want the metal mouth look.

Here are the top 3 undercover braces:

1. Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are similar to traditional braces instead they have clear of ceramic brackets which makes them less noticeable. But the wires are still noticeable so in terms of discreetness if you’re looking for the “barely there” look then ceramic braces are still visible. The costs of ceramic braces are approximately between 20,000 Yuan to 30,000 Yuan.

2. Invisalign
Invisalign are clear aligners made of flexible plastic which is a patented thermoplastic material called SmartTrack. The clear aligners will gradually shift the teeth and being almost invisible unless someone get very close, it has become one of the most popular options. Prices for Invisaglin range between 30,000 Yuan to 40,000 Yuan.

3.Lingual Braces
Lingual orthodontic treatment is where braces are fitted behind the teeth (by the tongue and palate) which makes it discreet for patients who don’t want braces on show. In comparison with the two previous options, lingual braces are actually the most discreet as they are fitted behind the teeth. Lingual braces are the most expensive with prices starting at 60,000 Yuan to 70,000 Yuan.

Discreet braces come with a bigger price tag than traditional braces. For more information about which option is better for you it’s best to book an appointment with an orthodontist who can give you professional advice and help you budget which means you know what to expect.
