Fluorosis is a intrinsic type of staining and discoloration of the teeth which means it’s not on the surface of the teeth. Fluorosis happens when hypomineralization of tooth enamel caused by ingestion of excessive fluoride during enamel formation. What types of treatment are available for fluorosis?



There are several ways to treat fluorosis and many clinics offer the same types of treatment but will differ for each individual case. The three most common methods of treating fluorosis are the following:
Bleaching
This is where whitening agent is used to treat discoloration of the teeth. Strict indications are required and will required the judgment of a professional dentist to determine the suitability of this type of treatment.

Veneers
Veneers is now one of the most commonly used methods with the choice of porcelain or composite materials to create a thin layer to cover the discoloration of teeth.

Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a tooth to cover the tooth to improve its appearance. However, the enamel of the natural tooth will have to be removed in order for the crown to fit over the tooth.

Bleaching is the quickest treatment to carry out in comparison to veneers and dental crowns which can take up to 2 weeks to complete.
